Security Officer

Hourly rate: $24.48 - $30.89 (new hires to State Service start at the minimum)

Located in Wallingford, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC) is a quasi-public agency of the State of Connecticut. Our mission is to generate revenue for the state while providing a fun, safe, and entertaining experience for players. With a team of nearly 140 employees, we partner with over 2,800 retailers to sell our lottery and sports betting products statewide. We pride ourselves on our responsible gaming program and are among the top lotteries in the U.S. for contributions to problem gambling research, prevention, and education.

We are currently recruiting for a full-time Security Officer (36-hours) to join our team working:

  • Saturdays 11:00 a.m. – 12 midnight
  • Sundays 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
  • Mondays 12 noon – 7 p.m.
  • Tuesdays 12 noon – 7 p.m.

This is not a remote position and requires an in-office presence.

In this role, you will provide a variety of security services designed to ensure the control, integrity and safety of CLC staff, property and corporate assets. You may be responsible for:

  • checking locks and seal numbers on all shipments
  • completing reports on damaged shipments
  • oversee the destruction of tickets and completing related paperwork
  • routine patrol duties both inside and outside of assigned facilities and monitoring security and alarms systems
  • manage and/or operate access system and security console equipment including maintenance of videotapes
  • upon request and when approved, review video and other artifacts for assigned cases / situations
  • may provide security escorts for visitors, contractors and employees
  • protection of buildings and parking areas at CLC properties
  • may investigate complaints, maintain records and take corrective action or refer to higher authority.
  • may gather information for assistance to Department of Consumer Protection Police Officers when requested
  • maintain daily activity logs and complete required reports
  • assist in the intake or referral of investigations of instances of crime, trespass, damage or disorderly conduct occurring on property
  • respond to security alarms, power outages and other facility related problems
  • implement evacuation activities and threat procedures
  • related duties as required

General Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Selected candidates will have two (2) years of experience in the protection of persons or property or enforcement of security regulations along with knowledge and experience in the following:

  • physical security systems, techniques and procedures
  • emergency responses
  • traffic and crowd control, fire prevention and security
  • relevant agency policies and procedures
  • computers and technology in area of security
  • interpersonal skills, both oral and written

Additionally, the demonstrated ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies; analyze emergency situations, take appropriate corrective action as well as apply good judgment and discretion are also required.

Substitutions Allowed

College training in criminal justice or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of one (1) year.

Special Requirements

  • incumbents in this class will be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
  • incumbents in this class are required to obtain an Occupational License prior to employment with the Connecticut Lottery Corporation and retain licensure during their period of employment.
  • incumbents in this class are required to obtain and retain a standard First Aid certificate and CPR certificate
  • Must hold and maintain a Security Officer Identification Card from the State of Connecticut (Guard Card)

Physical Requirements

  • incumbents must be in good health and must have and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity to effectively perform the duties of the class.
  • applicants may be required to pass a physical examination.
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing and possibly running may be involved in the execution of these job responsibilities

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to the attendant discomforts of working outdoors.

This may include prolonged periods of standing, walking or occasionally running in the normal course of this position. There is some risk of danger of injury in the performance of the duties of the class
