Government Relations Intern

Hourly Rate: $17.00

Located in Wallingford, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC) is a quasi-public agency of the state of Connecticut. With a team of nearly 140 employees, we partner with over 2,800 retailers to sell our tickets statewide. With a strong focus on responsible gambling, we have achieved over $1 billion in sales and returned over $400 million to the state’s general fund last year alone.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Government Relations Intern who will work on several projects relating to State government in the Greater Hartford area. The successful candidate should be prepared to work in government at the federal, state or local level. This will be an opportunity to work with the CT Lottery’s Legal and Government Relations Team while also developing a network of contacts in public policy and government to kick start your career in public service. Learn how Congressional offices work, what is involved with the legislative process as well as the inner workings of government policy and administrative actions.

Responsibilities

The Government Relations Intern will:

  • Provide support and assistance with advocacy events as needed
  • Track and advise on potential bills as they progress throughout the legislative session
  • Set up and participate in advocacy preparation and policy development meetings
  • Coordinate advocacy meetings and events with government officials
  • Provide research and comparison information for various legislation initiatives
  • Assist with gathering testimonials of retail partners in support of legislative initiatives
  • Attend relevant policy events, press conferences, public hearings and committee meetings on a variety of topics and prepare summaries for use by company executives

Requirements

The selected candidate will:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college or university, actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Business, Law, Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, or other related field
  • Demonstrate/proven, solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills including word processing, researching, database creation, slide preparation, etc
  • Have access to reliable transportation to and from our headquarters in Wallingford

Special consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate an interest in government by their research, academic coursework, employment or extracurricular activities demonstrating a passion for public policy and politics.
