Security Officer

SALARY RANGE: $24.48-$30.89 hourly (new hires to State service begin at the lowest rate)

Located in Wallingford, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC) is a quasi-public agency of the state of Connecticut. With a team of nearly 140 employees, we partner with over 2,800 retailers to sell our products statewide. (CLC) is recruiting for a full-time Security Officer to join our team, Monday-Friday, 3 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. In this role you will provide a variety of security services designed to ensure the control, integrity and safety of CLC staff, property and corporate assets. You will be responsible for:

  • independent integrity verification for CLC processes and/or programs;
  • inspection and verification of ticket shipments;
  • check locks and seal numbers on all shipments;
  • completes reports on damaged shipments;
  • reviews working papers of all games to insure proper security features;
  • oversees destruction of tickets and completes related paperwork;
  • routine patrol duties and monitors security and alarms systems;
  • manages and/or operates access system and security console equipment including maintenance of videotapes;
  • researches videotapes for various purposes;
  • security escorts for visitors, contractors and employees;
  • protection of buildings and parking areas at CLC properties;
  • investigate complaints, maintain records and take corrective action or refer to higher authority;
  • gather information for assistance to Department of Consumer Protection Police Officers when requested;
  • maintain daily activity logs and complete required reports;
  • assist in investigations of instances of crime, trespass, damage or disorderly conduct occurring on property;
  • respond to security alarms, power outages and other facility related problems;
  • implement evacuation activities and threat procedures;
  • coordinate Connecticut Lottery Corporation floor warden and first responder programs;
  • perform related duties as required.

General Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The selected candidate will have two (2) years of experience in the protection of persons or property or enforcement of security regulations along with knowledge and experience in the following:

  • physical security systems, techniques and procedures
  • emergency responses
  • traffic and crowd control, fire prevention and security
  • relevant agency policies and procedures
  • computers and technology in area of security
  • interpersonal skills, both oral and written

Additionally, the demonstrated ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies; analyze emergency situations, take appropriate corrective action as well as apply good judgment and discretion are also required.

Substitutions Allowed

College training in criminal justice or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of one (1) year.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class will be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
  • Incumbents in this class are required to obtain an Occupational License prior to employment with the Connecticut Lottery Corporation and retain licensure during their period of employment.
  • Incumbents in this class are required to obtain and retain a standard First Aid certificate and CPR certificate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • incumbents must be in good health and must have and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity to effectively perform the duties of the class.
  • applicants may be required to pass a physical examination.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to the attendant discomforts of working outdoors, the effort of prolonged periods of walking and standing while on foot patrol and/or guard duty and to some danger of injury in performing the duties of the class.
